Rhonda Patrick

Dr. Rhonda Patrick, a remarkable researcher whose impactful work has contributed significantly to our understanding of various fields. During her graduate research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, she delved into the intricate connections between mitochondrial metabolism, apoptosis, and cancer. Her groundbreaking findings unveiled a protein’s dual localization within mitochondria, revealing its previously unknown role in both cell survival and mitochondrial respiration, along with the maintenance of mitochondrial structure. This pivotal research was published in the esteemed journal Nature Cell Biology in 2012.

Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Patrick underwent postdoctoral training under the guidance of Dr. Bruce Ames at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. Her focus shifted towards exploring the impacts of micronutrient deficiencies, specifically vitamins and minerals, on metabolism, inflammation, DNA damage, and aging. Additionally, she investigated the fascinating influence of vitamin D on brain function, behavior, and various physiological processes. Her extensive research in this area led to the publication of a significant paper in FASEB in February 2014, elucidating the regulation of serotonin synthesis by vitamin D and its potential implications for autism.

Further showcasing her intellectual curiosity, Dr. Patrick conducted research on aging at the esteemed Salk Institute for Biological Sciences. Her work revolved around unraveling the role of insulin signaling in protein misfolding, a common occurrence in neurodegenerative diseases.

Beyond her rigorous scientific pursuits, Dr. Patrick actively engages with the public, imparting valuable insights on numerous topics. She passionately discusses the impact of micronutrient deficiencies on age-related diseases, the interplay between genetics and nutrient effects on an individual’s health, the benefits of exposing the body to hormetic stressors like exercise, fasting, sauna use, heat stress, and cold exposure. Moreover, she emphasizes the significance of mindfulness, stress reduction, and quality sleep in fostering overall well-being. Driven by a mission to challenge the status quo, Dr. Patrick strives to inspire the broader public to adopt a proactive and preventive approach to health and longevity
